If you have more porous charcoal than you can use, why not make the excess into briquettes. Much of the commercial charcoal available to buy comes from unsustainable sources. The process used to make charcoal, even in the UK, is also extremely polluting; our technology is far cleaner. So making your own charcoal briquettes will not only save you money, it is considerably more environmentally sound. Porous charcoal has had all the oils and tars burnt out. Briquettes made from it are therefore cleaner burning than traditional barbecue charcoals.
